Indigo Park Pool Behavior and Expectations During Swim Meets

Dear Indigo Park Swim Team Families,

First, thank you to all of our families, volunteers, coaches, and swimmers who contribute their time and energy to making our swim meets successful. These events depend on the efforts of many people working together to create a positive experience for our team and our guests.

During last night's meet, several Indigo Park swimmers were spoken to multiple times by adult volunteers regarding inappropriate behavior on the pool deck, including pushing, roughhousing, repeatedly pulling on the outdoor shower cord, spitting, and responding disrespectfully to adult requests. While these incidents involved only a few individuals, they created safety concerns and detracted from the environment we strive to maintain for all swimmers and spectators.

I would like to remind everyone that Indigo Park has established pool rules, and all swimmers and guests are expected to follow them at all times. As members of both the pool and the swim team, our athletes represent Indigo Park whenever they are on deck, competing, or interacting with teammates, volunteers, officials, and visiting teams, both at Indigo Park and at away locations.

It is important to understand that our adult volunteers are present to run the meet, officiate events, help with timing, concessions, scoring, and other operational responsibilities. They are not responsible for managing or supervising individual swimmers' behavior throughout the evening. That responsibility remains with individual swimmers' parents and guardians.

I ask all families to take a few minutes before each meet to review expectations with their swimmers. Please emphasize the importance of:

    • Following all pool rules and facility guidelines (attached for reference)
    • Treating volunteers, officials, coaches, teammates, and guests with respect.
    • Responding appropriately and immediately when an adult gives a direction.
    • Keeping hands to themselves and avoiding roughhousing or horseplay.
    • Helping create a safe, welcoming environment for everyone on the pool deck.

Our goal is for every swimmer, volunteer, and guest to enjoy a safe, respectful, and positive experience at Indigo Park. Clear communication of expectations before a meet goes a long way toward achieving that goal.

Thank you for your partnership and support in helping our swimmers represent Indigo Park with pride and good sportsmanship.

    Sincerely,
